Create 2 handmade books with Shobhna Patel -Fishbone book and an Embellished buttonhole bookYou will begin the workshop by firstly creating a Fishbone book – a perfect way for beginners to
ease into bookbinding. You will then move onto creating an A5 sized embellished buttonhole book
– the method of stitching used to create this book, allows you to open your book completely flat, so
it’s great for drawing and writing in.
Throughout this workshop we will look at the essential materials and equipment required in
bookbinding. You will learn how to work with different types of paper and card, and how to
measure, fold, pierce and sew signatures. Shobhna will share her knowledge, key techniques and
the technical do’s and dont’s of this artform.
All materials and equipment will be provided, so you won’t need to bring anything with you except
for a healthy dose of creativity! Please note, colours of paper, card and beads may vary. No
previous experience of bookbinding is required, as Shobhna will carefully guide you through each
stage of the bookbinding process.
By the end of the workshop you will have constructed 2 different handmade books to take home
with you, and you will have learned the practical skills to continue your bookbinding journey!
