About this Event
Join us on Feb 25, 2025, for an engaging talk on sustainability and social ecology through the themes highlighted in these two books: Practicing Social Ecology and The Sustainability Class.
The vast majority of contemporary environmentalist efforts aim at assuaging the guilty consciousnesses of the wealthy, ownership class, rather than making lasting positive ecological impacts. In this way, the current efforts, where environmentalism does not engage with class analysis, brings us no closer to actually solving the ecological crisis.
The question remains: what kind of interventions can bring real ecological change?
Movements for a "social ecology" place social and political transformation toward a free, horizontal society central to our approach to sustainability. There is also a strong philosophical component to understanding human beings as a species and or role in natural evolution.
We will be joined by all three authors:
Vijay Kolinjivadi is an assistant professor at the School for Community and Public Affairs, Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. He is also a co-editor of the website Uneven Earth. He lives in Montreal.
