In 1920's Montreal, Agnes Aubert turns to Havelock, a grouchy, but charming magician and landlord to save her cat rescue. Her shelter is in need of a new home, so he agrees to let her setup the rescue above his illegal magic shop in the basement. She soon learns of his shadowy past, including whispers that his dark magic once almost brought about the apocalypse.
One day, a glamorous magician comes in looking for Havelock, putting the magic shop—and the cat shelter—in jeopardy. To save the shelter, Agnes will have to team up with the Havelock . . . and may now be trying to steal her heart.
