Independent Bookstore Day 2026 is on Saturday, April 25!This one is for my bookish gals – let’s show our appreciation for a woman-owned indie bookstore and get some delicious food. (Plant people will also enjoy this shop 🪴.)
We’ll meet at 11 am at Rebllion Bourbon Bar & Kitchen in downtown Leesburg, where we’ll have a nice brunch.
By 12:30, we’ll head to Birch Tree Books & Plants and browse to our heart’s content. Check out the shop’s website - https://www.birchtreebookstore.com/
While in Leesburg –
> If you’re feeling crafty, you can pop next door to the newly opened NOVA Creative Reuse Center, which is a thrift store for arts and crafts.
> Shop at some clothing and thrift stores downtown.
> Take your book purchase to the several wine bars and breweries within walking distance and dive into your reading.
Can’t join us? Consider making a purchase from an indie bookstore through www.bookshop.org. You can pick a bookstore to support from anywhere in the country!

What’s important about independent bookstores?
>They promote local authors and host them for events.
>They can choose to stock diverse voices. A chain bookstore may have restrictions on what can be sold, which can be influenced by book bans and corporate preferences.
>Since indie bookstores are locally owned, dollars spent there go right back into the community.
>Many people find them healing spaces where they can be themselves and learn about their specific interests.
