The Unpredictable Past of the Future, On the Political Potential of UtopiaThis book includes a long essay by Ivana Momcilovic, dramaturge, on the role of science fiction in our distopian times, and a unique and recently discovered children's science fiction novel about, and written by, a young girl, Zora, who lives with her parents in Belgrade, in the oppressive Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and dreams of a school of the future. In her dream she drives an electric car, food is free for all at school, and all education is shared through aesthetics.
This utopian science fiction novel is called “A Walk Through the Future”. Written in 1924/1925, it was originally published in a communist children's magazine called Budućnost (Future), for the "children of organized workers” in Belgrade. It is signed Mala Zora ( Little Dawn) , an anonymous girl, and was recently discovered by Dr. Biljana Andovska, a researcher at the Institute for Literature and Art, Belgrade.
