Book Launch: Hallie Cantor presents Like This But Funnier
In conversation with Caitlin Kunkel
Emmy-nominated television writer Hallie Cantor (Arrested Development, Lady Dynamite!, Dollface, and Inside Amy Schumer) launches her novel Like This But Funnier, a whip-smart, laugh-out-loud debut about faking it (and “making it”) as a writer in Hollywood—for fans of Dolly Alderton and HBO’s Hacks. Accidentally stumbling on the session notes of her husband's favorite patient, TV writer Caroline—thirty-four and mired in professional envy and self-hatred—finds herself pitching a television show about the deepest, darkest secrets of a woman known to her only as the Teacher. Before she knows it, the momentum of Hollywood takes over and when Caroline forms a real-life relationship with Teacher herself, the continuously blurring lines between art and life shake up Caroline’s understanding of what it means to be the “likeable female protagonist” of her own life. Co-founder of the comedy site The Belladonna Caitlin Kunkel joins Cantor for a discussion on her "achingly funny" novel (starred review by Kirkus), before an audience Q&A and signing.
