About this Event
Exploring the provocative intersection of celebrity and the Gothic, this book examines representations of decaying, dead and undead celebrities in literary texts, visual media and popular culture. With case studies ranging from Lord Byron and Oscar Wilde to Marilyn Monroe and Lady Gaga, Gothic Celebrity examines a diverse array of cultural works and puts forward both Gothic and celebrity as vehicles for understanding how modern society processes death and ageing.
The event will begin at 5.30pm with a video game session of Vampire Survivors – drop in and have a go while enjoying some drinks and canapés!
At 6pm, the main events will begin with a reading of Lord Byron/Lady Gaga mashup poetry by Jon Stone. This will be followed by a conversation about the book with Harriet Fletcher, led by Professor Tanya Horeck.
This event is hosted by ARU’s Centre for Media, Arts and Creative Technologies (MACT).
This is an in-person event taking place at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge Campus, Lord Ashcroft Building (LAB), room 005.
The event is free and open to all.
