Please join us for the launch of Colleen Shoshana McKee’s heartful new poetry book, Feeding Ghosts. This collection is a poetic memoir of McKee’s time with her friend and collaborator J De Salvo, a beloved Bay Area writer and publisher who passed in 2021. The celebration will include brief readings by Tim Xonnelly (The Invasion of Pantomime, 2026), Natasha Dennerstein (publisher of Cherry Pie Press), Glenn Ingersoll (Autobiography of a Book, 2024), Laura Zink (award-winning prose writer and educator), and Richard Loranger (Mammal, 2024).
About the book, Matthew Freeman writes, "Feeding Ghosts isn't just a window into the life of an artist—addiction, mental illness, poverty, disability—it's also a testament to the power of story, and even the tricky predicament we face when writing about real people."
And Tim Xonnelly writes, "In this heartfelt collection, McKee shares one delicate memory after another, of a long and loving friendship. These songs of the unfair ("...J loved this library/when the staff would allow him/in the door...") and the unfinished ("...you never did tell me what happened with the waterfowl syndicate...") bring the poet J de Salvo back to us, however briefly. His generous heart and his mordant wit, his perfectionist pursuits - like a new kind of latke!"
