Book Circle – Women Who Inspire in Books!

Join us for the LMU Women’s Fest Book Circle to discuss your favourite books written by female writers (fiction or non-fiction) and/or to discuss the female characters from books who have inspired you in life – or female characters you just love to love!

You are welcome to bring along your favourite books to read sections from, if you would like to (not a requirement just an invitation!) or just simply be prepared to sit and talk informally in a group, with a cup of tea in hand, about all things women and books!

Any book counts, no snobbery here – recipe books written by women, literature, genre fiction, graphic novel, self-help books, play texts, creative non-fiction, memoir or biography, poetry, children’s books, female leadership development books, short stories – it all counts! The only rule is to come prepared to discuss openly or to share your experiences on books written by women or the strong complex female characters from books you have enjoyed.

So from Jane Eyre, to Anne Frank, to Michelle Obama, to Brené Brown, to Maya Angelou, to Hilary Mantel, to Mary Berry, to Nadiya Hussain, to Katniss Everdeen, to Éowyn, to Miss Marple, to Holly Golightly, to Louisa May Alcott, to Bernardine Evaristo, to Mary Oliver, to Margaret Atwood, to Delia Smith, to Toni Morrison, to Andi Oliver, to PL Travers, to Angela Carter, to Agatha Christie, to Zadie Smith, to Cheryl Strayed, to Malala Yousafzai, to Virgina Woolf, to Hermione Granger, to Olive Kitteridge, to Caryl Churchill, to Debbie Tucker Green, to Maggie O’Farrell, to Jacqueline Wilson, to Elizabeth Gilbert, to Matilda Wormwood, to Alice Walker, to Malorie Blackman. You get the gist – anything goes!

Coffee and tea will be available, and you are welcome to bring along your own lunch as very informal book circle. This is an in-person Holloway campus event over a lunchtime.

At the end of the session, for the last 15 to 20-minutes, a short creative writing freewriting exercise will be facilitated (no experience necessary).

Open to everyone, female and male staff – all embracing the female writer-character theme of the session!

NB: in-person at Holloway campus.

People who book on that are not London Met Staff will be removed

Facilitators: Sally Pembroke
