Come join us for a fun evening of delicious pizza to celebrate the release of Down North Pizza's new book, We the Pizza at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. Enjoy lite bites from Detroit's Vinyl Tastings and Green Mile Grile and pizza recipes from We the Pizza.
Guests will also enjoy music from DJ Sky Jetta, Ron Dance & Ro Spit, and DJ Scotty Nevers.
We the Pizza tells the Down North story about how the restaurant fulfills its mission to educate and support the formerly incarcerated while serving dope food. A testament to survival and second chances, this cookbook offers recipes for the tender, crispy-edged, square-cut, sauce-on-top pies that are Down North’s signature dish.
Created and launched by Philly born-and-bred entrepreneur Muhammad Abdul-Hadi, the mission of Down North Pizza is to reduce recidivism rates in North Philly and serve up the most insanely delicious food while doing it.
The Detroit stop of the We The Pizza tour is presented by Desire Vincent Levy's Culinary Arts & Letters Literary Society in partnership with Hospitality Included, and made possible thanks to generous support from the Michigan Justice Fund. The Michigan Justice Fund is a funders’ collaborative that makes investments to stem the flow of individuals into the criminal justice system, support the investment of public dollars to community-driven alternatives to incarceration, and ensure that those who are returning home after incarceration receive the support they need to flourish.
