Bom~Bane’s Picture Palace - Screen, Supper & a Song for £17 (or £10 without food). Come and join us on Wednesday the 3rd of June for an evening of film plus a musical performance related to what we’ll be watching!
June’s film will be Paper moon by director Peter bogdanovich. A master class in cinematic storytelling. Set in 1936 in Kansas during the Great depression, paper moon centres around a young girl, the profoundly resourceful 9-year-old Addie, played by Tatum O'Neal, who received an Oscar for her performance and remains the youngest person to ever win an academy award.
She stars alongside her real life father Ryan O'Neal and the two share a remarkable chemistry. Like our first film in our rite of passage season, the character of the child, as well as the other female characters in the film, defies traditional passive norms of girlhood and femininity.
Paper moon manages to balance wry humour with genuine emotional depth.
