About The Book
Bolero A Novel is the story of Miami attorney Natalia Armand whose life is transformed by an explosion and fire that burned one of her client’s townhouses, the one rented to Alberto Maciel.
Months before, Natalia had learned that there was a connection between her and Alberto Maciel; however, she had lacked the courage to find out the truth about that connection. After the fire, she looks for clues that would help her understand Maciel’s identity. She finds out that Maciel, a chemical engineer who began his profession in Nicaro, a Cuban mining town, was accused of conspiracy to traffic drugs and that he was the prosecution’s main witness against a cartel kingpin awaiting trial. She doesn’t realize until it’s too late that cartel henchmen are closely monitoring her because they don’t want Maciel’s death investigated or questioned.
The cartel henchmen eventually proceed to attach Natalia where she is most vulnerable. Then an even more determined Natalia continues to look for answers. Guided by instinct, she travels to Nicaro. Natalia comes to her own conclusions about Alberto Maciel through an international journey that confronts her and her children against ruthless adversaries.
About The Author
Raquel Puig Zaldívar is a Cuban-American writer, educator, and lawyer, who immigrated to the United States when she was 10 years old. This duality has shaped her perspective, connection, and understanding of both worlds. She earned her Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Arts, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami. She began her career teaching at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy and later at Miami Dade College, where she spent the rest of her teaching career simultaneously working as a journalist in South Florida. After ending her journalism career, she has maintained a successful law practice in Coral Gables, Florida where she specializes in probate, guardianship and estate planning. Throughout her life, navigating changes and balancing careers, writing has been her constant force. She has two published novels: Women Don’t Need to Write and Bolero, both written in English and Spanish by the author. She is presently working on two other novels. She loves having lunch with her son, traveling with her daughter, and spending all the time she can with her grandsons.
