Maurice Ravel's Boléro is one of France's most renowned masterpieces worldwide, undeniably leaving its mark on the history of music and dance. As Ravel was preparing for a four-month concert tour in the United States and Canada, Ida Rubinstein, his friend, and patron, asked him for a "Spanish character ballet." Sensing the allure of dance, Ravel chose the bolero, a traditional Andalusian dance, thus giving birth to the work.
