BOLD Black Student Open House

Calling all Black high school students in grades 9 to 12 from the London community! Come hang out with the Black Outreach Leadership Directive (BOLD), in collaboration with the the Black Medical Student Association at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, for an interactive, on-campus open house designed just for you.

This isn't just your average open house, it’s a chance to get a real feel for university life and imagine yourself succeeding in a post-secondary environment.Here is what we have planned for the day:

• Real Talk: We will share personal reflections on the transition from high school to university. Expect practical, encouraging, and relatable advice to help you navigate academic and social adjustments.
• Campus Tour: You will explore key spaces like a first-year lecture hall, Weldon Library, and the UCC. This will help you better understand what day-to-day student life can actually feel like.
• Healthcare Career Exploration: You will get to explore medicine and related healthcare careers. We will feature 30 minutes of hands-on activity, including a POCUS demonstration and laparoscopy simulation.
• Black Club Fair:
  Engage with members of the Black community on campus through an interactive club fair featuring groups such as Black in STEM, Black Students at Ivey Collective, the National Society of Black Engineers, African Student Fellowship, and more. This is an opportunity to ask questions, build connections, and learn about the communities and supports available to Black students at Western.

We'll wrap up the day by gathering for pizza, a brief reflection, and great conversations. Whether you want to explore career options, ask questions about campus life, or just see what Western is all about, this event is the spot.
