The series will focus on Somatic Healing through Performance.Creatively exploring self and group well being through performative movement
How can we heal while sharing our experience through creative expression? A performance can be for a large audience or no audience- meaning yes, we can perform for ourselves. We can take our expressive practices into our private space, or alone and hold ourselves as important enough to be our audience. Our bodies perform our emotions and vice versa in the same moment. We will explore the idea of being witnessed by others, being a witness for someone, and the concept/action of being there for yourself. I will guide us through different creative exercises based on dance improv, authentic movement, contact improv, and yoga. The classes will serve as an opportunity to connect to the self and others in a playful environment that can allow for deep emotional exploration through group and individual work. You can go as deep as you like or keep it playful and light- the idea is to create a space for multiple experiences and perspectives at once. Through group play and narrative building, we will explore the concept of performance in both a literal and conceptual sense. We will also use mask-making to explore our performative selves in relation to our inner selves. You can register for both sessions in advance or attend one. A sliding scale is available.
