Body Trauma Liberation: A Somatic Healing Journey

Body Trauma Liberation (BTL) is a therapeutic approach (informed by dance movement theory) that focuses on healing and releasing trauma stored in the body. This process combines somatic (body-based) techniques with trauma-informed practices to help individuals access, process, and free themselves from the emotional, physical, and energetic imprints of past experiences.
The concept is rooted in the understanding that trauma is not only a psychological event but also a physical one that can be stored in the body’s tissues, muscles, nervous system, and energy field. Over time, these unresolved traumas can manifest as chronic pain, anxiety, tension, depression, or other physical or emotional symptoms.
This workshop is an experiential healing opportunity to release trauma stored in the body through the BTL approach. Somatic processing integrates the mind-body connection to help individuals release tension, stress, and trauma from a physical and energetic level.
What are the key components of somatic processing?
Somatic Awareness:
Participants are guided to tune into their bodies to recognize areas of tension, pain, or numbness, as well as safe, comfortable body spaces.
Trauma Releasing Techniques:
Specific somatic exercises may be used to release trauma, such as gentle stretching, shaking, and movement practices.
Breathwork:
Controlled breathing exercises can be employed to activate the body’s natural healing mechanisms, calm the nervous system, and process physical sensation.
Emotional Expression:
Participants will be guided to express emotions, such as anger, grief, or fear through vocalizations, movement, or other forms of release.
Grounding and Centering:
Grounding exercises are often included to help participants reconnect with the present moment and their body.
Safe and Supportive Environment:
A safe container is created to ensure that participants feel comfortable exploring difficult emotions and sensations.
Integration:
After the BTL practice, participants will be invited to share their experiences, reflect on insights, and engage in journaling.
Who does this benefit (or, is this right for me?)
-Trauma survivors (PTSD, abuse, neglect)
-Chronic pain sufferers (fibromyalgia, back pain)
-Those dealing with anxiety, depression, or emotional dysregulation
-People experiencing dissociation or body disconnection
-Individuals with body image or self-esteem challenges
-People grieving a loss
-Caregivers, first responders, and people in high-stress professions
-Those with a history of dysfunctional relationships or abuse
-People seeking personal growth, spiritual, or emotional balance
In essence, somatic healing is a versatile and inclusive approach to healing that can benefit anyone, regardless of their specific circumstances; However, it may not be appropriate for those with severe trauma at the beginning of their journey. This workshop is led by a licensed mental health professional but is not meant to take the place of therapy.
*This practice is designed to move toward nervous system activation- you might experience discomfort or high emotional response due to this practice. Your experience, while shared in the group setting, will be unique to you, as will your needs for tending to yourself during the practice.
Please bring comfortable layers of clothing, a journal and writing utensil, a water bottle, and an open and curious mind and heart.
$65 Space is limited. Pre-registration is required.
