Jewelry Works Harlem is a collective of three women artists who come to this vibrant neighborhood from three corners of the earth. Each brings her unique cultural influences to create a tapestry of styles, materials, and techniques ranging from acrylic, porcelain, and non-traditional materials to bold metalwork and precious stones.

Through Jewelry Works Harlem, they empower each other while sharing their diverse backgrounds and resources with each other and their neighborhood. All three artists believe in the potential of craftsmanship to connect people and celebrate individuality. Long-time residents of Harlem, they are:

Stephanie Dubsky moved to New York in 1999 to work in the curatorial department of The Guggenheim Museum; later she became Director of the Design Shop at the Neue Galerie.

Stephanie now creates one-of-a-kind jewelry crafted of porcelain and precious metals.

She designed an exclusive collection of porcelain rings and bowls for the Whitney Museum Shop, participated in MAD About Jewelry in 2021, NYJW in 2018 and 2019, and exhibited at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum and Jim Kempner Fine Art, NY. Stephanie finds harmony in the tactile process of shaping porcelain by hand, a sensory experience that lives on in her jewelry.

She lives with her husband and daughters in Harlem.

A native of Germany, Katrin Zimmermann studied Chinese and Art+Archaeology and traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia before setting up her studio in Harlem. The exposure to such different cultures is evident in her approach to design—she draws on a creative base that is international, multicultural and diverse. The focus of her design aesthetic is reduction: her goal is to bring out singularity through simplicity. The result is a line of progressive sterling silver and acrylic art jewelry that is architectural, minimalist and modern.

Katrin is also a member of the CFDA, professor at Pratt Institute and MA student at Bard Graduate Center.

Birabiro founder Lydia Gobena creates unique, perfectly imperfect designs which she makes by hand in her studio in East Quogue. Lydia enjoys working with both traditional and non-traditional materials to create structural, bold, and distinctive jewelry. She draws inspiration from nature, her travels, and her birthplace — Ethiopia. Many of her product names are derived from Ethiopian origins. Her work has been exhibited at Milan Jewelry Week and in various galleries.

Each November, NYC Jewelry Week proudly presents ‘The Week,’ a 7-day celebration dedicated to the art of jewelry. This annual event invites a global audience to explore the world of jewelry through a dynamic mix of in-person and virtual experiences, spanning New York City and beyond.
