BMC Hill Walking: Social Walk, Geology & Ecology on Bleaklow, Peak District Hike the second and third highest hills in the Peak District
About this Event

Join us for a social hike that visits the second and third highest hills in the Peak District, bagging three Ethels and two trig. points along the way plus hear a little about the geology and ecology of the Dark Peak too!

Meeting outside Glossop railway station, this will be a walk led at a moderate to brisk pace, with significant, steep ascents and descents, on rough, rocky paths and also crossing some trackless, boggy terrain. We plan to visit Higher Shelf Stones, Bleaklow Head and Cock Hill all being well. We will then circle back to the start point.

We will have time to pause and discuss a little of the geology and the ecology of the area as we journey and there will also be time for a Q&A session to ask anything about walking.

We’re excited to welcome you for a memorable day in the outdoors!

Meet the Leader

Peter is a keen hill walker, a former BMC Peak District Hill Walking Rep. and also a former chair of the BMC’s Hill Walking Committee. Peter is a qualified Mountain Leader and regularly leads walks on behalf of the BMC and other organisations.

Peter has led walks for over 30 years, presently leading mainly in the Derbyshire Peak District National Park but also has significant experience leading elsewhere in the English and Welsh uplands. He has a particular love for the Dark Peak. Peter believes it is particularly important for hill walkers to put something back into the very places that we gain so much pleasure from. As a consequence he has organised a number of BMC conservation volunteering opportunities in the Dark Peak.
