Get a bird’s-eye view of Government Canyon on this ranger-led hike.At Government Canyon State Natural Area, it’s all about water. Learn more about the Edwards Aquifer and its recharge zone as you explore the Bluff Spurs, Sendero Balcones, and Recharge Trails in a 3.5-mile loop. Be aware that this hike includes some elevation gain and loss over rough, rocky topography.
Who Is Invited:
This hike is open to all ages. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please. This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at [email protected] to schedule at a different time.
Where to Meet:
Meet at the rainwater tower at the Visitor Center; closest parking will be Lot A or B.
How to Prepare:
Though the activity is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. We often fill to capacity. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass. Day passes can be reserved beginning one month before the date of your visit. Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the hike! The hike is limited to the first 15 participants to check-in with the hike leader.
Dress for hiking outdoors. Wear layers that can be taken on or off as the day's weather changes. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and a snack.
