About this Event
American multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Zucker (piano, synth, voice) and Hungarian drummer Till Jarvis have been making music since they met in 2017 in New York. Living in separate continents, Zucker and Jarvis have developed the unique synergy of their wide-ranging and ambitious duo project playing in short spans of a week or two at a time on the road in diverse venues — from candle-lit jazz clubs in Edinburgh and Istanbul to an electronic music venue built out of repurposed car speakers in Timişoara; from an art gallery in London to a sculpture park outside of Cluj-Napoca. Performing sometimes with a grand piano and a high-fi sound system, but sometimes with a skeletal drum kit, a synthesizer, and a single speaker, the duo is at home within a remarkable range of sounds: passages of complex contrapuntal chamber music are followed by noisy improvised soundscapes punctuated by Jarvis's gong synthesizer, and followed again by Zucker’s plaintive lullabies.

Gabriel Zucker is a songwriter, composer, pianist, multi-instrumentalist, and polymath from New York, whose work combines maximalist compositions, intimate songwriting, virtuosic metric complexity, and the progressive improvisation of New York’s creative music scene. His music has been praised in Downbeat (4.5 stars), All About Jazz (4.5 stars), Stereogum, Jazzwise, and the New York City Jazz Record. A Yale graduate and Rhodes Scholar, Zucker has performed throughout New York at such venues as Carnegie Hall, The Stone, Roulette, and the Jazz Gallery, as well as in 28 countries around the world.
Till Jarvis is a drummer and composer primarily focusing on free improvisation and on researching the tonal possibilities of the drum set. He has appeared on over 20 records and has performed at a great number of major venues and festivals with artists including Malik Mezzadri, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Ralph Alessi, and Seijiro Murayama. As a leader he has released three records (Cloud Factory in 2018, Randomity in 2020, and Minimal Distance in 2022). He is a co-founder of the group Quelquefois and is a member of the experimental folk jazz band named Kovász. Jarvis is an endorser of Dream Cymbals and Gongs since 2016.
