
About this Event
Informed by styles including jazz, free improvisation and rock, the original music of the Gabriel Heinemann Trio incorporates improvisation, open-form composition, and melodic interplay into each song. Fresh off their debut album, “After a Break”, and release tour in summer 2024, they are continuing to develop their unique sound and musical approach.
Gabe Heinemann:
Gabe Heinemann is a saxophonist and composer based in Chicago. Originally from Madison, WI, he learned from musicians such as Pete Ross, Nick Moran, and Paul Hastil. After continuing his musical development at Oberlin Conservatory, where he graduated in 2022, Gabe moved to Chicago and has played with his groups alongside veterans such as Vincent Davis and Jim Baker. In the summer of 2024, he finished touring for his debut trio album, “After a Break”.
Owen Frankel:
Owen H Frankel is a bassist, vocalist, and composer based in Chicago, Illinois. In 2022, he graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music where he studied with Peter Dominguez and Gerald Cannon. While a student at Oberlin, Owen was a founding member of groups Slampson and The Music Quintet. He has also released much music under his own name that highlights him as an adept and unique indie singer-songwriter. An in demand improvising musician in Chicago, Owen can be seen playing regularly at venues around the city and beyond with musicians such as the Vincent Davis, the Jamal Damien trio, and Ernest Dawkins; as well as his recently formed project, Our Mutt.
Henry Ptacek
Henry Ptacek is a Wisconsin born, Chicago based drummer, percussionist, producer and visual artist. His background is in jazz, afro-cuban and noise rock.
