Blues Heritage Series #3 Honoring Son HouseAfter years of rejecting secular music, first as a preacher and later as a church pastor, he turned to blues performance at the age of 25. He quickly developed a distinctive style, carrying over the rhythmic drive, vocal power, and emotional intensity of his preaching into the music. Though his career was briefly interrupted by time at Parchman Farm penitentiary, he refined his musicianship to the point that Charley Patton, the leading blues figure of the Mississippi Delta, invited him to perform together and to join him at a 1930 Paramount Records session.
