The Allman Brothers Band fused blues, jazz and country styles to create their own, distinctly American, sound. The “Brothers” formed in 1969, released their iconic album “At Fillmore East” in 1971, and played with various combinations until 2014. At the core of the group’s sound were the two guitar harmonies and soaring solos.
We have created “Blue Sky Dogs” as a celebration of the ABB’s unique sound.
The Blue Sky Dogs came out of a special connection that lead guitarist, Tom Kiefaber has to the ABB. Tom's dad, Tom Kiefaber Sr played bass with Dickey Betts in "The Jokers" back in the 60's before Dickey joined the ABB. Rick Derringer referenced the Jokers in "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo" In 1970, Tom's first musical memory is backstage at an Allman Brothers show when he was 4 years old. Tom and his dad Tom Sr hung around the brotherhood for many years and even joined them onstage a couple of times at Deer Creek.
The second guitar parts (actually the other first guitar parts!) are placed in the capable hands of Indianapolis’ guitar expert, Sean Atkinson. His interest in blues, jazz, country, and rock make him the perfect fit.
The Hammond organ/piano parts and bass guitar lines are handled by longtime 3to1 Band members, Bill Mallers and Jon McKinney.
“Blue Sky Dogs” bring the ABB experience full circle with the “two drum” percussion section of Joe O’ Connell and Nick Mallers. Their rolling rhythms will remind you why Jaimoe & Butch remain to be the greatest drum pair in rock history.
The music is authentic, we also have a visual show (Freakie Beat Visuals) that compliments the experience when appropriate.
The Blue Sky Dogs lineup: Tom Kiefaber (lead guitar, vocals), Jon McKinney (bass, vocals), Sean Atkinson (lead guitar), Bill Mallers (keyboards, vocals), Joe O'Connell (drums, percussion) and Nick Mallers (drums, percussion, vocals).
