Blue Ridge Parkway Ride
• February 21st 2026 – Weather permitting
• It is best to bring a 2-way radio as cell service is unavailable in most parts of the journey. These can be obtained from Amazon, Walmart , Bass Pro etc, pricing is flexible on what you want.
• While on the Parkway there are no rest room facilities or restaurants open this time of year,
you should prepare accordingly. We will stop at a picnic area for a break.
Pack snacks and or a Lunch !
Safety & Driving Tips
• Speed Limit: Usually 45 mph or lower
• Stay in Your Lane: Curves can be blind; don’t cut corners.
• Watch for Wildlife: Deer, bears, and smaller animals often cross the road.
• Limited Services: We will fuel up before entering and the restroom is recommended.
• Cell Service: Can be spotty; download maps offline.
• Sharp Curves & Elevation Changes
• Weather Changes Quickly: Bring layers
• Respect Nature: Take out what you take in

Departure: Bass Pro Shops – 9:00 AM
Address: 11550 Lake Ridge Pkwy, Ashland, VA 23005
• Off I-95 exit 89. Arrive fueled and ready.
Route Overview
• I-95 South → I-64 West → Blue Ridge Parkway → VA-56 → Devils Backbone
Stops - Parkway stops will pend availability and or closures
1. MM 168 Rest Area (Manakin-Sabot)
o Quick restroom/stretch break.
2. BP – 6115 Rockfish Gap Tpke Crozet
o Convenient fuel and snack stop before heading deeper into the mountains.
o Restrooms available and a deli for food/snacks.
3. Exit Interstate at Exit 99 Route 250
o Right at the end of the exit toward the Rockfish Gap entrance of the Blue Ridge Parkway
4. STOP - Afton Overlook (Photo Opportunity)
o Milepost ~0.2 on Parkway to the left
5. Humpback Rock Picnic Area (Lunch)
6. The Slacks Overlook (Photo Opportunity)
o Milepost ~20 on Parkway to the right; scenic views and
trail access
7. Big Spy Mountain Overlook (Photo Opportunity)
o Milepost ~26.4 on Parkway to the right; short walk to panoramic views.
8. Crabtree Falls 4x4 Trailhead (Off-road detour)
o Exit Parkway at MP 27.2 → VA-56 East (~6.3 mi).
o One of Virginia's tallest waterfalls, perfect for a nature break
o The trail is about one mile up the mountain to the parking area, and we’ll come back down the same route.
o This is a one lane unpaved roadway with no guardrail or mountainside roadway
barriers. Considered a very basic trail head with no major obstacles but 4WD is
recommended.
o Travel at your own risk – This is an optional portion of the trip and is advised for only those
with off-road experience.
o Those who wish not to take this portion of the ride are invited to travel ahead to our final
stop.

ARE BELOW**
• From Crabtree Meadows 4x4 Trailhead - 5529 Crabtree Falls Hwy, Tyro, VA 22976
o Continue along VA-56 E for 14.4 Miles
o At the road end,(Stop sign) turn LEFT onto VA-151 N and travel 10.3 miles
▪ Once you turn left on VA-151 N, there is an Exxon to the left for fuel
▪ This is a MOUNTAIN ROAD – expect some curves
o Turn left onto Crandall Run/Mosbys Run to arrive at Devils Backbone Basecamp ( You can't miss it ! Right at the base of the road up to Wintergreen Ski Resort)

9. Final Stop – Devils Backbone Basecamp (Roseland)
o 200 Crandall Run, Roseland, VA 22967
o Brewpub with outdoor games and fire pits for food and relaxation.
