About this Event
In this hands-on course, participants will tour DC Water’s Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment facility, the largest such facility in the world. Participants will learn about the science and technology powering the plant, and learn about the renewable energy and other benefits derived from the process, most notably a high-performing soil amendment called Bloom. Participants will learn about the benefits of biosolids in landscaping, the composition of Bloom and the ways in which it can be used to meet common specifications in landscaping. Participants will witness the process of making Bloom from start to finish, and receive a voucher for a free sample of cured Bloom, a finished product produced for the garden and landscaping trade.
1.0 PDH/HSW pending.
Meet our group at the Visitor Center at Blue Plains. There is parking right in front of the visitor center and there will be transportation for getting around the plant. The security guard will direct you to it when you pull in. The plant is not particularly public transit accessible so driving or taking shared transit is advisable.
You'll be treated to lunch before the tour.
Please bring ID with you as security will need to see it and wear sturdy shoes that can get dirty.
