About this Event
A rip, a tear, a divot the size of an apple. Sometimes it's obvious when a pair of pants needs mending. Sometimes it's a little more subtle, like a thin patch or an odd bit of coloring. In the first half of this class, students will learn to address obvious problems in their own blue jeans as well as diagnose other problems before they start. Then in the second hour, students will do some hands-on "farmhouse repairs" - that is a range of visible mending techniques that prioritize function and durability.
Although the skills taught in this class will work with any denim, we will focus on trousers for our first ever blue jeans clinic, and students are encouraged to bring their own damaged pair of jeans to class! This class is beginner-friendly and suitable for children 12+ with an accompanying paying adult.
Instructor Cirrus Wood is a self-taught artisan who enjoys coming up with and learning new techniques to make clothing more visually appealing and more durable. He runs the mending and tailoring business Dollars & Yen which came about after years of casually combining elements of both Japanese and American design in his own wardrobe.
