Lunar Eclipse Sadhana Night in Auckland — a rare opportunity to turn inward and use this powerful celestial moment for deeper awareness
About this Event

Most people look at the moon as a beautiful object in the sky. In the yogic way of seeing, the moon is not decoration. It is a powerful influence on the waters of the planet and the waters in you. Your body is mostly water. Your mind is deeply connected to the rhythm of your energies. This is why full moon nights have always been used for sadhana.

A lunar eclipse adds another layer. The Earth comes directly between the Sun and the Moon, and the Moon passes through the Earth’s shadow. You will watch the Moon dim, then turn a deep red. But the real opportunity is not what happens to the Moon. The opportunity is what you can do with your awareness when nature creates an unusual energetic situation.

On Tuesday 3 March, Auckland will witness a total lunar eclipse from beginning to end. This is the only lunar eclipse of 2026 visible in its entirety from Aotearoa, and the next total lunar eclipse is expected in 2028. We are creating a 7-hour guided sadhana night to use this window consciously, not casually.

This is for people who are willing to sit up, become inward, and use the night as a stepping stone. Not to collect an experience, but to refine your receptivity. When you become receptive, the smallest thing in creation becomes a doorway.

What will happen on the night:
  • A structured asana sequence to stabilise the body and spine
  • Breath and inner stillness practices to sharpen attention
  • Chanting to create a certain “inner climate” and cohesion in the system
  • Selected Sadhguru video insights on the full moon and eclipse, to bring context and clarity
  • Guided full moon meditation to deepen receptivity
  • A period of silence during the most potent eclipse window
  • Outdoor eclipse viewing breaks at the best times

This is not a performance night. It is a sadhana night. The intention is simple. If the body and mind become quiet enough, you start noticing what is always here but usually missed.

Why this night matters

Once you understand one thing, everything becomes clear. Your experience of life is not created by what is happening outside. It is created by the quality of your inner state. Full moon and eclipse nights give you extra leverage to work on that inner quality.

Most people use special nights to indulge the senses. A yogi uses special nights to sharpen perception. If you bring the needed sincerity, even one night can create a shift in how you hold your body, how you hold your mind, and how you hold your life.

Who this is for
  • You want a deep, guided, structured night of sadhana
  • You want to experience the eclipse with awareness, not entertainment
  • You are open to silence and a contained atmosphere
  • You want to sit with a community that values inner work
  • No prerequisites. No prior yoga experience needed. Everything will be guided on the night.

Not a fit if
  • You want a casual, chatty event
  • You want a drop-in format
  • You are not willing to follow a guided structure for several hours

What to bring
  • Warm clothing for outdoor viewing
  • A shawl or blanket for your comfort
  • Water bottle
  • Yoga mat
  • A willingness to stay alert and follow the process

Group agreements for the night
  • Phones silent and away during sessions
  • Minimal talking, especially after 9:30pm
  • Move quietly during transitions
  • Respect the silence as part of the practice

Food and fasting for the eclipse
  • For lunar eclipse nights, it is best to keep the stomach empty so the system stays light and receptive. If possible, come fasting.
  • Aim to have your last full meal at least 4 hours before the eclipse window. If you do need to eat, keep it light and simple, and finish early.

Best:fast through the night

Next best:a light meal well before the eclipse

Avoid: heavy, oily, or late-night eating

Bring water. If you need something small, bring a simple, light snack for after the main practices
