About this Event
Atelier Māya’s Print Thinking Masterclass, featuring blocks and found tools, invites you to explore handblock printing through the use of inks, cloth, and the visual poetry of the ordinary.
In this print experience, we will combine woodblocks with the spontaneity of found tools. We print with found tools, fruits, vegetables, and kitchen objects, anything that can make an interesting texture or pattern.
You’ll explore how rhythm, repetition, and texture can come from tools and objects that we have around us. We often overlook objects and tools that can make interesting marks, and in this session, we will explore the possibilities of the tools we gather or find around us.
We can learn to see everyday materials as instruments of design, how different fibres and cloth can reveal texture and how to create patterns in unexpected ways.
Rooted in Māya’s Print Thinking philosophy, this masterclass treats printing as a way of thinking through making and creative exploration. We start exploring a reflective creative practice that turns observation into design.
This practice involves looking at things differently and finding the visual poetry in everyday objects. Explorations are inspired by research into the work of Barron & Larcher.
