Join us at Bathers Beach, Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour for a very special event during the Fremantle Blessing of the Fleet and the Little Italy by the Sea Festival. A spectacular sound and light show in celebration of the 70 Anniversary of the Madonna di Capo d'Orlando is being created by Local Arts and Culture organisation, Fremantle Biennale in collaboration with Fremantle based poet and writer Jennifer Kornberger, and members of the Blessing of the Fleet, bringing this historic cultural event into our skies in the form of a narrated sound and light show at Manjaree/Bathers Beach in Fremantle.
The poet chose to dive into the central meaning of the Festa – the experience of blessing that the Madonna bestows. She has done this because she believes the contemporary relevance of the Festa lies in its capacity to open the door to the sacred in a universal way, beyond a specific system of belief. The qualities of grace, the need for safe passage, protection, and peace in life, are not to be confined. They are overarching qualities that are essential for communities. If they can be experienced through the
medium of art, of metaphor, of poetry, they offer a type of transcendence that many people are longing for.
‘You do not have to believe for mercy to move through you, to be caught in the net of grace, in this hour we are fisherfolk.... today the Festa belongs to us all.’ – Jennifer Kornberger
A once-in-lifetime event which promises to be an extraordinary experience!
