Howdy! We are working hard at perfecting our American accents for our next concerts in just a few weeks' time. This years marks 250 years of American independence, and we are celebrating this great historical event with a programme of sacred and secular American music from across three centuries entitled "Beautiful dreamer".Many of the great American classical composers are represented, including Amy Beach, Aaron Copland, Florence Price, Eric Whitacre, Stephen Foster, Samuel Barber, Morten Lauridsen, and others. The huge swathe of European musicians who sought refuge and settled in the US are represented in pieces by Stravinsky and Arnold Schoenberg, and we also offer three traditional American songs. No survey of this nature would be complete without taking account of popular culture, so we also make stops at Broadway and Hollywood.
Please come and join us at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday 24th March in All Saints Church, Lockerbie for a joint fund-raising event with Lockerbie Music Society, or at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday 26th March in The Usual Place, Dumfries, when we will be performing to support the invaluable work that the UP does with young people with additional support needs. Admission to the concerts is £12 (children free).
