Blas Festival Finale – A Celebration of Gaelic Culture
The 21st Blas Festival draws to a close with a spectacular celebration of Gaelic music, song, and heritage.
This year’s finale concert features a stellar lineup of multi-award-winning Gaelic singers, including Arthur Cormack from the Isle of Skye, joined by his sons Ruairidh and Iain. They will perform alongside acclaimed vocalists Jenna Cumming from Inverness, Alice Macmillan from the Isle of Lewis, and Ruairidh Gray from South Uist—together creating a rich and powerful celebration of Gaelic song.
The singers will be accompanied by an outstanding house band led by Musical Director Ingrid Henderson, and featuring Iain MacFarlane, Angus Nicolson, and Eamon Doorley. A string quartet led by Lochaber’s Helena Rose will bring added depth and musical texture to the evening’s repertoire.
The night will open with a performance by ‘Aon Ghuth / One Voice’, the world’s first Gaelic Makaton choir. Combining Gaelic song with Makaton - a language programme that uses signs, symbols, and speech to support communication - this unique choir empowers individuals with additional needs to express themselves through music.
This will be followed by the first live performance of Mike Vass’s 2020 Blas Festival commission, Air Falbh ann am Bàta—a moving piece built from songs and music sourced from the Tobar an Dualchais archives. Originally created as a video performance by Fèisean participants across the country during lockdown, this marks its live debut, performed by a new cohort of young Fèis musicians.
An unforgettable evening that honours tradition while embracing new voices, this finale promises to be an enduring celebration of the essence of Gaelic culture
