About the Event
Pattern Drenched: MAKE a 2026 Interior is a collaborative creative residency led by Scottish surface pattern and textile designer Aimee Kent, exploring the growing trend of immersive, personality-filled interiors through colour, art, print and sustainable making. Across a series of hands-on workshops at MAKE, participants will experiment with surface pattern design, natural dyeing, block printing and playful interior styling inspired by local flora, fauna, found objects and architecture. Together, the group will transform the studio into a richly layered, pattern-drenched interior installation celebrating creativity, craftsmanship and community. Combining traditional hand-crafted techniques with contemporary interior trends, the project encourages participants to embrace expressive design, mindful material use and the joy of creating something unique together.
Join textile and surface pattern designer Aimee Kent for an inspiring introduction to the world of pattern drenching, surface design and playful interiors. Exploring emerging 2026/27 interior trends, this hands-on workshop will look at the growing shift away from beige minimalism towards expressive colour, layered pattern and personality-filled spaces. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of surface pattern and textile design through sketching, doodling and experimental mark-making exercises. Using local flora, fauna and architecture as inspiration, the group will develop original motifs and colour palettes while exploring the creative possibilities of pattern play, pattern clashing and immersive interior styling. Perfect for anyone with an interest in interiors, textiles, art or creativity — no previous experience required.
Join textile and surface pattern designer Aimee Kent for a playful and experimental introduction to natural fabric dyeing as part of the Blank Canvas residency project, Pattern Drenched: MAKE a 2026 Interior. In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore sustainable dyeing techniques using food by-products and natural ingredients including beetroot, red onion skins, turmeric, blue spirulina and spices to create beautifully unique colours on fabric. Together, the group will experiment with colour blending, immersion dyeing and simple fixing techniques using local sea salt, preparing hand-dyed fabrics ready for printing and embellishment in the following workshop session. Perfect for anyone interested in textiles, interiors, sustainability, art or creative experimentation — no previous experience required. Expect colour, creativity, conversation and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Workshop Four is an interactive presentation, exhibition and live styling event bringing together all stages of our creative team journey. We will explore how hand-dyed and printed textiles from previous weeks can be transformed into finished interior pieces, with a seamstress manufacturing frilled cushions using participants’ fabrics. Aimee will be exhibiting her own wallpaper, printed fabrics, hand decorated repurposed furniture, and interior decor items made during her residency. During the live interior styling session, there will be a photoshoot followed by a group discussion around sustainable design, circular making and creative reuse. Guests will also experience a unique food element, with canapés prepared from Week Two’s fresh ingredients, thoughtfully frozen and reused to highlight a mindful food-to-fabric circulation.
