About this Event
Blah Records presents: It's Them!
Coming at you live in the brick basement of Stage & Radio in Manchester.
"It's Them!"
Bill Shakes
The unelected, official mayor of Blackburn, from Whalley Range to Audley Range, it's all the same! He is on speed like Keanu Reeves on a bus, his pill face is blue steel, there is no one like him, he is the unmistakable Bill Shakes! Fuck what you think you might have heard, pal, you're wrong, it's right there on record, do the history, Big Billy Shakes is the originator of all that super dumb-ill smart northern shit. The man who ventured down south for no good reason to pluck the London half of COTD out of the big smoke and drag them up north to make music, the man who brought Black Josh to the label, we owe this guy a lot, pay your respects! Bring only the finest gifts. He will be previewing some new shit as well as delving deep into the back catalogue.
Sly Moon
What can we say about Sly Moon that hasn't already been said a thousand times before? A man who brought so much funk to the table his crew named a tune after him in 'Sly Moon Funk'. He gets slyer as the time goes by and never stops wondering why he is so sly. Sly by name, Sly by nature. He has been part of the furniture at several London casinos over the years but more importantly part of the soul of Blah Records. When he musters up the will power to peel himself away from the poker table he is making beats and writing rhymes about his life experiences.
Jack Danz
Prolific West Yorkshire artist, one fourth of mid 00's viral-before-viral, Leeds based rap crew; Defenders of Style, Danz has to be, no, scratch that, definitely is one of the most consistent rapper/producers UK Hip Hop has ever produced. And if you wasn't one of those British cave dwellers, hung up on late 90's/early 00's "golden era" UK Hip Hop, you'd burst your own bubble with expeditiousness and rush head-first into the reality biting realisation that Jack Danz should be a mainstay in that nerdy list of your favourite rappers. Shunning the TikTok-ification of modern music in favour of a more subdued approach, quietly building his castle brick by brick in the dark—he has agreed to make this rare pilgrimage over to Manchester to perform just for you!
King Grubb
The Big Belly King, a Brick Pelican Posse Crew Gang original, and one of its most elusive members—you'll never be able to, but if you could—you'd find him lurking somewhere in the shadows, plumes of the finest buddha smoke billowing above his silhouette, from a baseball bat-sized splab he constructed in the dark with his eyes half-shut, sipping on his signature Thug Passion 2020 Rum Cocktail from whatever receptacle was available. You won't be able to do shit but happily nod in agreement when he finishes his lunch and emerges from the darkness to let you know how good he is and how shit you are with such laid-back aplomb, it could only be true. Don't let the stoned aura fool you, though; he comes from the school of the great OG Tony Broke, so he can rock a crowd and control the mic like it's nobody's business.
Reklews
The man behind the boards. Not only has Reklews been Blah Records long-standing, in-house mixing engineer, but he played a pivotal managerial role behind the scenes, filling a void left when Molotov headed back home to the continent. Most importantly of all is his production. He helped build the signature sound of the second wave of Blah Records releases after the first coming of COTD and Lee Scott's 'Mr. Wrong' alias projects. Making the beats for Hock Tu Down, Tony Broke's first album, a chunk of Bill Shakes first release, plus the lion's share of Mcabre Brothers first couple of projects. Be in the house as soon as the doors open for an early sneak peek of what the future holds!
