UC San Diego Professor & 30-Year Music Producer King Britt Returns to the Library for an Immersive Lecture SeriesProfessor King Britt, acclaimed music producer and Teaching Professor at UC San Diego, returns to our library to lead a special series of interactive lectures illuminating the groundbreaking contributions of artists of color in the development of electronic music.
Audience members will be invited to select one of five sonic pathways, each tracing the birth and evolution of a genre—from the deep syncopations of Funk and Philly Disco to the machine soul of Chicago House, Detroit Techno, and the cosmic transmissions of Birmingham’s own Sun Ra. These sessions are more than musical timelines; they situate each genre within the socio-political landscapes from which they emerged—revealing innovation as resistance, rhythm as archive.
This series is part of Professor Britt’s celebrated UCSD course Blacktronika: Afrofuturism in Electronic Music, and offers a rare opportunity for audiences of all ages and backgrounds to engage with the often-erased Black histories behind the music that shaped modern sound.
