Roy Tracy got hooked on Bowie when he was just a little kid, watching him on late night TV. Following his rise to superstardom in music and movies, then discovering his 70s output on classic rock radio, Bowie was perhaps the most formative early influence on Roy's music and style. This persisted through adulthood - while Tracy developed his career as a jazz singer and cabaret performer, Bowie grew into his status as a living legend, continuing to experiment with new sounds and collaborators all the way up to his masterfully-executed death. Secretly suffering from terminal lung cancer, Bowie recorded his final album - Blackstar, a meditation on his entire life and its impending end - on January 8th 2015 (his birthday), then died two days after its release. Immediately following his death, Roy and his friends started charting out entire Bowie albums and playing them live, which lasted for about a year before circumstances took him away from the project.
This is a further adaptation of those songs, deconstructed from conservatory notation to Real Book style block charts, and attacked from a jazz perspective. It's going to sound so good. Won't you join us?
