About this Event

Want to learn about Black Wall Street and the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre? Join us for a tour.

On May 31, 1921 one of the wealthiest Black communities in the United States, known as Black Wall Street, was destroyed in what is considered to be one of the worst acts of racial violence in American history. However, this was not the end of Black Wall Street. Since then, Black Wall Street was rebuilt but still fell victim to corruption and racism plaguing the city of Tulsa. Today, remnants of Black Wall Street can still be found in the historical Greenwood district and the community continues its fight for justice and reparations.

Join us for an impactful tour led by Tulsa native, Kode Ransom to learn more about Black Wall Street, its destruction, and rebuilding.

About Kode Ransom:

Kode Ransom was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is a cultural creator; community organizer, poet, youth basketball trainer, hip-hop artist, screenwriter, budding historian of Greenwood, and film director. Ransom made it a personal mission to learn as many perspectives as he possibly could throughout life. He makes it an essential objective to stay connected to the everyday people of Tulsa. Ransom has become synonymous with the city because serving the community is what shapes his everyday life. "Service to others is how I pay my “rent” on Earth."

Kode Ransom is known around the city of Tulsa for his community outreach events and his dedication to helping children get ahead. A part of his basketball program is teaching the student-athletes to be more than just an athlete. He has helped numerous players start businesses, some of which were only nine years old at the time of starting. Kode once said, “I told myself that I would spend my life learning as many different perspectives as I possibly could, and that puts me in the best position to help." He lives by this quote.

Kode also gives tours of Greenwood, teaching people the history of all that happened in that area. His work as a hip-hop artist is geared toward telling stories that are rarely told. A true storyteller, every song is meant to completely immerse the listener in whatever subject is being told.
