About this Event
This project will create a public memorial honoring the legacy of the Baltimore Black Sox historic Negro Leagues baseball team. The sculpture will be located in the future Westport & Smith Cove Waterfront Park as part of the broader Reimagine Middle Branch initiative.
After reviewing submissions from artists, the project team has selected six finalists whose concepts will help shape this tribute to the players and community that helped defined this important chapter of Baltimore’s history. At this event, you’ll hear directly from the shortlisted artists about their vision for the memorial and their artistic approach to honoring the Baltimore Black Sox through public art.
Attendees will:
- Meet the shortlisted artists
- Hear about their design concepts and creative vision
- Learn about the memorial timeline and selection process
- See how the memorial connects to the future waterfront park development
Parks & People, in partnership with the South Baltimore Gateway Partnership (SBGP), is proud to lead the creation of the Baltimore Black Sox Memorial in Westport.
