An interactive workshop to come together in circle to build connection, not division - despite the history of British colonialism and racism
About this Event

All welcome – whatever age, ethnicity, religion, birthplace

This workshop coincides with the end of the exhibition at RHCC called “The Rhodes Legacy through the Eyes of Zimbabwean Sculptors”. We will gather and share in safe circles how the history of British colonialism in Africa has affected our ancestors – both good and bad / black and white – and we will explore its legacy for us today.

We all have ancestors who have survived through challenging times, be it colonialism or wars. The world is now facing massive new threats: rapid climate change, AI fakery, social media addiction, mass migration, family breakdowns and more. We and our children will survive best by building resilient local communities. And, given the relative privilege that most of us have in Oxford, we can also support our families and friends in more challenged countries overseas.

We will draw on exercises from Systemic Constellations and from Resmaa Menakem’s book “My Grandmother’s Hands – Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies.”

It will be a practical, embodied event – not just talking!

An Oxford Zimbabwe Arts Partnership event (see www.OZAP.uk)

- Supported by the Oxford Institute for Systemic Constellations (OxISC) & Oxford City Council

The workshop will be hosted by Richard Pantlin.
