Every year TBBL kicks off Pride season with a Beach Day. Join us June 7th at Madeira Beach to kick back with the fam. This year join Tampa Bay Black Lesbians and Evolve Tampa Bay to be Black AF and Queer AF in the sunshine. Bring your flags, tents, beach set-up and snacks to soak up some melanin! This is a family event so bring the littles!
For the last 5 years, Tampa Bay Black Lesbians have celebrated the beginning of the Pride season with a Beach Day. Our annual TBBL Black on the Beach event is meaningful in so many ways. One, it is an opportunity to celebrate our Intersectionality at the beginning of Pride, together. But most importantly, just 60 years ago, the Black community had little to no access to pools or segregated beaches. Despite being famous for ocean access and people traveling from all over the world to experience it, many Black Floridians couldn’t swim because they weren’t allowed in the water to learn. Communities held “wade-ins” like the lunch counter “sit-ins” to protest the segregation of beaches. There is something so incredibly beautiful about standing together as a Queer community, during Pride, celebrating our Queerness, melanin glowing, in the same water they kept our ancestors and kinfolk from. You absolutely don’t have to be a lesbian to participate In Black on the Beach, TBBL welcomes and invites all parts of the rainbow to enjoy the day with us. Evolve TB came out to hang with us last year and is partnering with us this year to make it fully inclusive. There is no ticket needed, no cost or special requirements to participate. Just grab a cooler, your umbrella and come out to enjoy the water & company with us. It’s a day to celebrate ourselves, Pride, living in our authenticity and FREEDOM. Come get free. ****Please note, there is a two-sided parking lot with spots that are Park Mobile pay by the hour. The parking lots across the street are private lots and WAY more expensive so if the park lots are full, try one of the city lots on the water side of the street on Gulf Blvd. and walk down. We'll be set up near Archibald Beach Park. Home base is the Archibald pavilion.
