About this Event
The Black Maternal Mental Health Summit 2026 is a two-day national convening taking place May 5 and 6 at Compton College in Compton, California. Presented by Black Girls Mental Health Foundation and The Amani Project, the Summit brings together Black mothers, clinicians, researchers, advocates, doulas, birth workers, and community leaders to advance culturally responsive care and systems-level change in Black maternal mental health.
Black women in the United States die from pregnancy-related causes at two to four times the rate of white women. Mental health conditions, including suicide, are among the leading causes of pregnancy-related death. Yet Black mothers remain among the least likely to be screened, diagnosed, and connected to affirming care.
This Summit exists to change that.
What to Expect
Sessions will cover perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, racial disparities in maternal care, trauma-informed practice, family and community support systems, and culturally affirming approaches to Black maternal mental health. Programming is designed for two audiences running in parallel: one track for licensed and emerging providers, and one track for Black mothers and community members using accessible, non-clinical language focused on self-advocacy, wellness, and resilience.
Day 2 includes a Community Baby Shower for Black mothers and birthing people, featuring resources, gifts, and a celebration of the community this Summit was built to serve.

About the Venue
We chose Compton College intentionally. It is a historically community-rooted institution serving one of the most diverse student bodies in Los Angeles County, located in a city with a proud legacy of Black excellence and resilience. On May 6th, the college hosts its weekly farmers market, meaning families and community members will already be on campus, creating a natural bridge between the Summit and the everyday life of the neighborhood.
About the Organizers
Black Girls Mental Health Foundation is a Black-led nonprofit advancing health equity by expanding access to culturally grounded mental health care and strengthening the capacity of community-rooted organizations serving BIPOC families.
The Amani Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting maternal mental and physical well-being by offering doula services, therapy, care coordination, and wrap-around support for expecting and new parents.
Together, the two organizations co-created and delivered the Black Maternal Mental Health Summit 2025, a national virtual convening that drew over 1,000 registrants, achieved a 9.63 out of 10 average participant rating, and engaged attendees from health systems, universities, and community organizations across more than 30 states.
