Black Joy: A Guide for Mamas in LA Launch Event

Black Women for Wellness is thrilled to unveil the Black Joy Guide, a resource designed to empower and uplift Black pregnant women and mothers. This special event will bring together the Kaiser administration, Kaiser members, and the surrounding Black Women for Wellness community in a powerful gathering to celebrate Black motherhood.

During the event, Black mothers will have the opportunity to build community with one another, engage in meaningful conversations with Kaiser Baldwin Hills Crenshaw healthcare providers, and access culturally affirming resources from community-based organizations. Attendees will also participate in restorative wellness activities, including a rejuvenating sound bath designed to nourish the mind, body, and spirit.

Partners and children are welcome.

Attendees will leave with their own copy of the Black Joy Guide along with other exciting community resource materials and giveaways.

Black Women for Wellness partners on-site will include: The IRTH App, Frontline Doulas, the Abundant Birth Project, the African American Infant and Maternal Mortality Initiative, WIN LA, and more!

A delicious lunch, catered by Chef Angie @chefangelabowie, will be provided. We encourage attendees to arrive on time, as food will be available upon arrival.

As we celebrate Earth Month, BWW Environmental Justice fellow Sophie Sylla will offer a zine-making space where participants will learn more about environmental and reproductive justice in Los Angeles and make art that shares their dreams for the future of LA.

Together, we will amplify the voices of Black birthing people, fostering trust, advocacy, and affirming connections. Join us as we honor the resilience and joy of Black mothers while working toward a more equitable maternal healthcare system.
