Black History Month 125th Anniversary of The Negro National Anthem "Lift Every Voice and Sing"

Jacksonville FL will come alive February 12-16, 2025, with a historic world class tribute celebrating the 125th Anniversary of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" known as the Negro National Anthem. The hymn was written by James Weldon Johnson, and the music was composed by J. Rosamond Johnson in 1899 and perform in Jacksonville FL by 500 African American Students on the birthday of Abraham Lincoln February 12, 1900. The Lift Every Voice and Sing Tribute will be a multi-day event filled with performances dialogues and cultural celebrations highlighting the legacy of Jacksonville's Native Sons and World Citizens the Johnson brothers and their iconic song. The event will culminate in a stirring performance by a 500-Voice Children's Choir at The Bethel Baptist Church February 12, 2025, 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m.


The Tribute will feature:

  • Stellar Performances across music theatre and visual arts.
  • Public Dialogues on race relations and community building
  • Youth Competitions including the inaugural James Weldon Johnson and J Rosamond Youth Piano Competition.
  • Smithsonian "Poor Peoples Campaign Exhibition"
  • Lift Every Voice and Sing Unsung Heros on Canvas
