The East Oakland Youth Development Center (EOYDC) proudly announces the 3rd annual Black Futures Ball fundraiser gala on Saturday, August 3rd. This event brings the Oakland community together for a good cause: raising $150,000 to send Bay Area students to colleges and universities across the nation. Since 2015, EOYDC has distributed well over half a million dollars in scholarships to 200+ students (awarding over $150k in scholarships in 2023 alone)! A staple in the community for over 45 years, EOYDC has nurtured the skills and talents of tens of thousands of children and youth.
Guests will gather at the stellar Chabot Space and Science Center for food, drinks, music - including a performance from Karega Bailey's SOL Development - and dancing (powered by DJ DC is Chillin). The Black Futures Ball will also feature stimulating art and experiences including African diasporic-inspired face painting, a portrait studio, a planetarium show with an Oakland soundtrack, telescope viewings, an augmented reality enabled gallery powered by Oakland-founded AR app Black Terminus and more!
Oakland native and Grammy-nominated artist RyanNicole will host the gala, where community leaders from the Bay Area will be honored with EOYDC’s Champion for Youth Award, recognizing their exemplary work in uplifting and affirming young people. This year’s awardees include Milan Balinton of the African American Community Service Agency, philanthropist Tamra Goins of Innovative Artists, Margot Roache-Green of DNV and Chris Iglesias of the Unity Council.
