Black Everyday honors Black resilience, beauty, + genius through defiance, joy, + artistry. Art by Kin Folkz, Apryl Sadler, JIBCA + Sloane.Black Everyday: A Celebration of Resilience and Beauty
The Black Everyday group exhibit is a powerful testament to the endurance, beauty, and creativity of Black life in the face of racism, misogynoir, and oppression. Featuring works by Kin Folkz, Apryl Sadler, JIBCA, and Sloane, this exhibition elevates the seemingly ordinary moments of Black existence into acts of defiance, celebration, and deep-rooted joy.
Through a dynamic interplay of mediums, colors, and textures, Black Everyday unearths the richness of Black identity beyond struggle—centering love, laughter, self-expression, and community as vital forms of resistance. Kin Folkz’s evocative mixed-media works weave historical and contemporary narratives, affirming the intergenerational strength of Black communities. Apryl Sadler’s striking portraiture captures intimate gestures, highlighting the tenderness and power within everyday interactions. JIBCA’s bold, surreal compositions blend fantasy and reality, reimagining Black futures beyond imposed limitations. Meanwhile, Sloane’s minimalist yet emotionally charged pieces strip back distractions to reveal the quiet intensity of Black existence.
Housed in the Queer Healing Arts Center, Black Everyday invites audiences to witness, reflect, and celebrate the radical act of simply being—of existing unapologetically in a world that often seeks to erase, diminish, or define Blackness through struggle alone. This exhibit is more than an artistic showcase; it is a sanctuary, a call to remembrance, and a vision of what has always been true: Black life is, and always has been, extraordinary in its everydayness.
