Kinfolk: Jaja's African Hair Braiding with Destination Crenshaw
Come join Black Equity Collective's Kinfolk event at the Mark Taper Forum for our exclusive matinee performance of the Tony award-winning play Jaja's African Hair Braiding! In collaboration with BEC member organization Destination Crenshaw, this special event is to celebrate the rich tapestry of Black artistry and community with an opportunity for a special meet & greet with the production cast.

About Jaja's Hair Braiding: Step into the vibrant, bustling heart of Harlem with Jaja's African Hair Braiding, the riotously funny and deeply resonant Tony Award-winning play by Ghanaian-American playwright Jocelyn Bioh. Set in Jaja's popular hair salon on a sweltering summer day, this dazzling production welcomes you into the lives of a tight-knit, eclectic group of West African immigrant braiders. Amidst the laughter, sharp-tongued sisterhood, and the creation of beautiful braided masterpieces, dreams will flourish, love will blossom, and this community must confront what it means to be an outsider on the edge of the place they call home. Hailed as "rapturous" and "full of treasurable moments" by critics, this extraordinary comedy celebrates courage, community, and the indomitable spirit of women pursuing the American Dream. Don't miss this must-see cultural gem!
Kinfolk is a BEC curated cultural outing that centers on Black excellence and aims to build community amongst our member organizations while creating intergenerational connections.
