ABOUT BREAKFAST AT CHRISTIE'S: The Black Doll Affair is thrilled to unveil the first initiative of BlackDollyHood, our new digital hall of fame, entertainment platform, and spotlight on the outstanding achievements of The Black Dolls and citizens in the communities we serve.
Let’s start with the name. Barbie’s first African American dollfriend, Christie, is the beloved Black Barbie doll character that Mattel put on the market in 1968. ‘Breakfast at Christie’s’ was born out of Mama Doll’s experience of being nominated for a Martin Luther King Service Day award in Tacoma, WA, where she lost to other philanthropists deemed "winners." Dana Hill, also known as Mama Doll and Founder of The Black Doll Affair, decided to create something new. Drawing inspiration from Essence Magazine's esteemed "Black Women in Hollywood" and guided by the belief that there are no losers in community service, she launched 'Breakfast at Christie’s (BAC),' an awards brunch where every nominee is a winner.
"In community service, it's never about competition; it’s about celebrating each other's efforts to uplift the community. That’s the spirit of BlackDollyHood and Breakfast at Christie's. I’m so excited to give BAC!” said Hill.
