Black August 2025: Black Resistance, Liberation & Joy Have Always Coexisted

Join us for the BOSS Black August Block Party, a dynamic celebration dedicated to community empowerment and social justice.
At its inaugural Black August Block Party in August 2021, BOSS unveiled 'The Arc of Liberation' mural - a culmination of art, culture, and political education honoring the heroes and fighters whose shoulders we stand on and whose activism we continue today.
As we commemorate Black August 2025, the principles and struggles and acknowledge the Brothers and sisters still imprisoned, it is fitting that we embrace the theme of Impact to highlight the powerful contributions of individuals and groups striving to create positive change within our community.
Public art inspires and tells a story - it brings the community together!
Black August, as a cultural movement, has significantly impacted the arts. Black people are amongst the most celebrated artists, entrepreneurs, activists, and change-makers – the Block Party shines a light on these visionaries. We are looking for performers, vendors, resources, sponsors, and speakers who embrace the principles of Black August: communion, unity, self-sacrifice, political education, physical training, and determined resistance.
WHAT TO EXPECT!
Delicious Food: Enjoy mouthwatering dishes from local caterers and vendors, amplifying small Black-owned food distributors and purveyors.
The BLACK MARKET: Explore a marketplace filled with small Black-owned local vendors, entrepreneurs, artists, and retailers.
Inspirational Speakers: Hear from local leaders and activists significantly impacting education, housing, and criminal justice reform.
Honoring Our Elders: Acknowledge and celebrate the wisdom and contributions of our elders who have paved the way for current and future generations.
Focus on Incarcerated Brothers and Sisters: Highlight the struggles and resilience of our brothers and sisters still in prison, bringing attention to their stories and advocating for justice and reform.
Workshops: Participate in workshops that equip you with the tools and knowledge to make a difference in your community.
Voting Education: Learn about the importance of voting and how you can help increase voter turnout through our "Impact the Vote" campaign.
Performances: Enjoy performances by local artists and musicians who use their talents to inspire and uplift.
Community Resources: Access information and services from local organizations that support and empower our community.
Wellness Services: Take advantage of wellness services including blood pressure testing, A1C testing, and COVID-19 vaccinations (Moderna & Pfizer).
Join us in commemorating Black August, a time to honor the resilience, struggles, and contributions of Black communities. Together, let's embrace the principles of unity, self-sacrifice, and resistance, and make a lasting impact on our community
