He dazzles audiences with a signature style that artfully combines his virtuosity, emotion and humor with a strong, engaging stage presence.
Taylor has enjoyed a remarkable musical career spanning across five decades, with more than 100 recordings to his credit. Completely self-taught beginning at the early age of 4, he has invented and developed a unique way of playing the guitar that is greatly admired, and often emulated, by guitarists all over the world.
In addition to his solo concerts and recordings, he has also collaborated with musicians from many different musical genres, including: Jeff Beck, Tommy Emmanuel, Bill Wyman, Chet Atkins, Stephane Grappelli, David Grisman, George Harrison, Jamie Cullum, Bryn Terfel, Dianne Schuur and Gary Burton.
Over his stellar career, Taylor has amassed a record 14 British Jazz Awards as a guitarist. Several of his albums have been in the Top 10 in the USA and Europe. “No matter how complex or daring, Taylor’s interpretations never short change the melodies; indeed, his remarkable fluid touch embues a seamless beauty. Martin Taylor is something to behold.” – The Washington Post
Bireli Lagrene has no equivalent in the world of jazz and improvised music. He stands out for his ability to create bridges between gypsy culture, American jazz standards, Bavarian folklore, and classical music such as the great JS Bach. During his four decades long career, he’s had the opportunity to ply with the greatest: Jaco Pastorius, Stephane Grappelli, Al Di Meola, Larry Coryell, Jean-Luc Ponty and Stanley Clarke to name a few.
Bireli is now one of the more well-regarded guitarists in jazz, impressing audiences from around the globe with every strum of his six-string. He has released 26 albums and 7 live concert films, all of which have received praise from fans and critics alike.
In 2023, Bireli Lagrene released in trio with Hono Winterstein (rhythm guitar) and Diego Imbert (double bass) a side project "Bireli Lagrene plays Loulou Gasté," a superb songbook dedicated to the repertoire of one of the most important authors of the golden age of French song, Louis Gasté.
Bireli Lagrene is a France-based musician known as the undisputed King of Django Reinhardt–influenced Gypsy jazz guitar. Since 1980, he has delighted new and long-time listeners of jazz with wonderful songs that capture the essence of the genre.
