Join Steve Willis from BTO Scotland for an informative talk about their Cuckoo project & a short documentary "The Future of Birds".ABOUT THE EVENT: Join us on Monday 17th March for a captivating docu-film 'The Future of Birds' and an engaging and eye-opening session all about our feathered friends from ornithologist, Steve Willis, at Lairg Learning Centre, 6-8pm.
THE FILM: Before our talk with Steve from the British Trust of Ornithology (BTO) Scotland, we will enjoy a 40 minute documentary called 'The Future of Birds' by GreenPlanet films ( greenplanetfilms.org ), made in 2019. With the loss of global biodiversity and climate change in mind, the world`s ornithologists are understanding how important birds are for ecosystems and economies. In this documentary, you will discover recent research conclusions with scientists and ornithologists from around the planet. You will share the passion and the love of birders and admire the most elegant and mobile creatures of the natural world. A short trailer can be found below...
THE TALK: After a short break - tea, coffee, cold drinks and biscuits provided - Steve Willis of BTO Scotland will be talking about the BTO and the work they do for our native birds, as well as a look inside their successful Cuckoo project , which has been satellite-tracking Cuckoos to study their habits since 2011.
"We’ve learned lots of vital information, such as how the different migration routes are linked to declines , and some of the pressures Cuckoos face whilst on migration, but there is still much more to discover." (B.T.O.)
We have been following George 2 along his flight path this year to Africa, soon they will be on their return journey and Steve will have some updates to share with us.

ABOUT FLIGHT PATH:
Through a combination of creative writing workshops, lectures, immersive walks and various mediums of art, we hope to raise awareness and a comprehensive understanding of how climate change is altering the behaviour and distribution of bird species worldwide. ABOUT THE FUNDER
Lairg and District Learning Centre, along with 8 other centres throughout Scotland, are delighted to have been awarded a grant from the Scottish Government's £272k Climate Engagement Fund (CEF).
The fund has been set up to increase Climate Change awareness and action in local communities through various activities such as community workshops, podcasts and green festivals, which will be supported from the latest round of Scottish Government funding.
