About this Event
Ben Walters will discuss the Kirtland’s Warbler, an Endangered Species that is often considered emblematic of Michigan. However, this rare bird also has a long history in Ontario. In 2021, conservationists from academic institutions, non-profit organizations, and industry agencies collaborated to establish the Ontario Kirtland’s Warbler Working Group. The group’s activities have included acquiring and restoring land, monitoring accessible populations, and assisting government agencies in stewardship efforts. This presentation will provide an overview of Kirtland’s Warbler’s breeding biology, habitat and causes of decline. It will also highlight the opportunities Ontario has to support the recovery of this endangered species through targeted conservation initiatives.
Doors open at 7:00 PM, presentation begins at 7:30 PM.
